Alpha-terpineol is a monoterpene compound

Occurring as a minor constituent in the essential oil makeup of certain cannabis varietals.

This terpenoid has a distinctive scent often described as piney, floral, and citrusy. Some detect hints of apple, mint, and lilac as well. The aroma is pleasant and complex.

Alpha-terpineol appears predominantly across a diversity of unrelated plants - from pine tree resins to flowering Lilium plants to a variety of herbs and grasses. It is a primary component of some essential oils.

Research indicates alpha-terpineol possesses a wide range of potential therapeutic qualities:

• Sedative relaxing effects that may promote sleep
• Demonstrated antioxidant, anti-inflammatory activities
• Possible antibiotic properties against some bacteria
• Reduces severity of certain types of pain signals
• Shows antimalarial properties suppressing certain parasites

While not the headliner scent in most chemovars, alpha-terpineol plays an important supporting role influencing the overall terpene profile through synergistic interplay with other abundant compounds like pinene, limonene, and linalool.
